GUBayArea - Summer Update
First and foremost, we are looking for those who would like to become involved in various activities, i.e. the Gala, Business Forum, Service, 20-30's, Faith, Marketing/Promotion etc. GUBayArea has been fortunate the past 3 years to enjoy great support from its members. Since we have grown by leaps and bounds since 2006, we are calling out to our members (new & old) to help us plan and execute our programs. GUBayArea needs your ideas and energy to insure another incredible year as GU's "biggest & best" Alumni Chapter.
Summer Events: We have a very large and geographically diverse organization, for which it is a challenge to plan and host events that are convenient and within a reasonable range our members. As such, it is important, if not essential, that we host events in the major membership areas, i.e. San Francisco, South Bay, East Bay, North Bay and Sacramento. To this end, our thought is to host a summer function in each of these areas, but need your help to do so. These events can be anything that you want them to be, a house/pool party, a social at a local restaurant or other such venue, a service project, a wine tasting etc. etc. The major ingredient is that our membership steps up and takes the lead. We can provide the membership contact numbers and email addresses, and we can do the email blasts and record the RSVP's. The main ingredient is member participation. How about you?
North Bay Summer Event: Rich & Cathy Worner will again be hosting a BBQ at their vineyards in Graton (Sonoma County) in late July or early August. Details to follow.
GU Wine Makers: There are a surprisingly large numbers of GU wine makers, i.e. Jed Steele, Justin Wylie, Kurt Beitler, Katie Leonardini and Russell Bevan to name just a few. All those noted have been very generous in their support of GUBayArea. To acknowledge this support, we will be running a summer series of up dates of each winery, noting their new releases, coming events and other interesting information. We encourage you to check them out...
Gala 2009: This year's Gala will be Friday, September 25th at the Italian Athletic Club. A Gala Committee is being formed, and those interested in joining should contact me. The focus, theme and details of this year's Gala will be determined by the Committee.
Business Forum: Simon Manning is looking for members to serve on his committee, as he is in the process of planning the summer/fall events. Participation and networking is a "must", especially in these times.
Rebuild New Orleans: The GU Alumni Association is sponsoring Rebuilding Together, September 20-26, 2009. All Gonzaga family and friends are invited to participate, either throughyour local chapter (bring a group!) or independently. For more information click here.
Freshmen Class 2009 - 2010: It has been another outstanding year for GU enrolment. The incoming class is 1200+, with 128 from Northern California. 21 are from St Ignatius; while Jesuit - 9, Bellarmine - 7, Mitty - 5, Marin Catholic & De LaSalle- 4 each are the other top contributors. All together, the freshmen hail from 56 different high schools in all areas of Northern California.
4th Annual Erik Hanson Memorial Golf Tournament: August 10th at the Diablo Country Club. Erik's family and friends have raised over $120,000 for an endowed athletic scholarship in Erik's name. Erik was a standout baseball player at GU. This is a first-class event that deserves your support.
Cheers...
